Finding a Veterinarian

Puppies on CouchWhen choosing your family's veterinarian, use the same care and criteria that you would in selecting a physician or dentist for yourself and your family. Establishing a relationship with a veterinarian is one of the most important steps you can take in ensuring a long and healthy life for your new pet.

Think about what is important to you. Your veterinarian will be your pet's:

  • Anesthesiologist
  • Dermatologist
  • Endocrinologist
  • Endodontist
  • Internist
  • Oncologist
  • Ophthalmologist
  • Orthodontist
  • Pediatrician
  • Radiologist
  • Surgeon

Goals for a Veterinarian

Your goal should be to find the veterinarian who you believe can best meet your pet's medical needs and with whom you feel comfortable in establishing a long-term relationship. (Adapted from the Illinois State Veterinary medical Association website.)

Providing Routine Care

Be sure to provide routine veterinary care for your animals at any area veterinarian. Members of the Peoria County Veterinary Medical Association visit PCAPS each weekday to oversee the animals' care and treatment. Thanks to the PCVMA for their support and advice.
