Records Employment

A Records/Clerical Reception Clerk must be at least 18 years of age, be a High School Graduate or equivalent, and be able to satisfactorily complete a series of tests. The tests include:

  • An oral interview
  • A written test
  • A background investigation
  • A polygraph
  • A pre-employment medical exam


Maintain and update the Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) and manual criminal arrest records, computerized report system for police, jail, and accident files, photo ID system, crime and jail statistics; to respond to citizens; identify warrant information and disburse inmate monies.

Process served and recalled warrants, and hit confirmation for law enforcement personnel. Contact Circuit Clerk to verify validity of warrants. Process new warrants.

Complete record checks and mugshot checks on new warrants received. Prepare reports for walk ins, phone ins, requested vacation checks, and accident copies from citizens. Collect fees for proper response for Freedom of Information Act requests.

Maintain statistics, reports, and jail population records, including updates of arrest and release information and Freedom of Information Act requests, both manually and via data entry, as assigned. Make copies and disburse to appropriate parties. Enter all tickets, jail incidents, missing persons, sex offenders, alias, gang entry, dog bites, runaways, stolen articles, property and vehicles, and visitors to inmates; input appropriate data into the LEADS, as needed. Retrieve files for attorneys visiting clients.

Enter police reports, warrants, and writs into computer system utilizing various software programs.

Monitor and interact with inmate visitors. Assist with religious service procedures.

Provide direction and/or training for new employees, volunteers, and part-time records clerks, as needed.  Answer switch board, route calls, and takes messages.

May be called upon to testify in court.

Salary & Benefit Information

Starting salary for employees in the Records Division is $16.00/HR. The Peoria County Sheriff's Office provides health insurance (80/20) at a reasonable cost to the employee, which includes medical, dental, and vision, as well as a retirement package. Clerks work five days per week, which could include weekends. Clerks may be assigned to 1st or 2nd shift. The current hours of operation are from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary is determined by union contract.
